Observatory of European SMEs
The Observatory of European SMEs monitors the economic performance of SMEs in Europe. It was established at the end of 1992 by the European Commission.

Until 2004 an overview of the situation in the SME sector was published each year. These reports contain valuable information for policy-makers both at European and national level, and for researchers and economists interested in SMEs.

EIM has been co-ordinating the Observatory project since the first report was published until 2004. The reports have been prepared in co-operation with the European Network for Social and Economic Research (ENSR). All reports are available in English, French and German. Reports nr. 1 to 5 are still available from EIM.

The reports of the Sixth (2000), Seventh (2002) and Eighth (2003) Observatory can be downloaded from the website of the European Commission.

In 2006 and 2007 the Commission carried out an Observatory survey in the 27 Member States of the European Union (EU), as well as in Norway, Iceland and Turkey. This survey included also large-scaled enterprises. The results are available at the website of the European Commission. EIM was not involved in the 2006 and 2007 Observatory.
